Who we are
Meals On Wheels of Asheville-Buncombe County, Inc. is the largest at home meal delivery service provider in Western North Carolina and has been serving Buncombe County for over 35 years.
Each weekday, we provide a nutritious meal and a variety of helpful programs to over 500 homebound seniors throughout Asheville and Buncombe County in an effort to help them remain independent and age with dignity.
Our Mission
The focus and purpose of MOW-ABC is clearly defined in the organization's Mission Statement:
Meals On Wheels of Asheville-Buncombe County provides hot, nutritious meals to the elderly homebound, thus allowing them to live in their own homes, among familiar surroundings and maintain their dignity while aging.
Meals On Wheels is available to homebound seniors (age 60+) without regard to race, religion or economic status.
More than just Meals
Meals On Wheels offers a variety of programs and services to help insure the safety and wellbeing of the clients we serve. Each day, volunteers provide a few moments of companionship to our homebound friends. For many seniors, this may be the only people they see in a day. These caring individuals act as our eyes and ears to make sure that the seniors we serve are healthy, safe and secure. If a problem exists, Meals On Wheels staff work to resolve it or notify the appropriate support agency that can help. As a result, these daily visits provide peace of mind to our elderly homebound and the families who love them.
Grassroots, Volunteer Driven Community Organization
Meals On Wheels is not a government agency but a grass roots organization that is volunteer-driven and relies on the support of its local community.
