2010 Polar Bear Plunge
The 2010 Polar Bear Plunge was a chilling success!!!

The outside temperature was 38 degrees and the water was a balmy 33 degrees - a perfect day for a Polar Bear Plunge!!! Just a week before, the outdoor pool at the Asheville Racquet & Fitness Club was frozen over with 5" of ice on the surface. But thanks to the hardworking staff at AR&FC, the ice was gone and the pool was ready for the 2010 Polar Bear Plunge to benefit Meals On Wheels of Asheville & Buncombe County.
On the morning of January 23rd, 2010, 18 fearless souls prepared to take the plunge to help feed the homebound elderly of Buncombe County. There were top hats, flippers, sunglasses and wigs. Tina & J-Lo were there, as well as Batman, the Masked Marvel and NA Roofing Man. Even the cops showed up as Asheville's Police Chief Will Hogan and Buncombe County Sheriff Van Duncan came out to support Meals On Wheels.
Each of the Polar Bears worked hard to gather sponsorships from friends, family and co-workers who along with Polar Plunge Sponsors worked to raise $10,382 to benefit Meals On Wheels.
Our thanks goes out to the Asheville Racquet & Fitness Club, the Polar Bear Plunge Planning Committee, the sponsors and especially the polar bears who helped make this annual event a success!
See you next year!!!
