VOLUNTEER WITH MEALS ON WHEELS

and share a moment of meaningful connection.

Why Volunteer?

Your visit helps seniors remain in the homes they love, surrounded by memories, not moving into costly or isolating care settings. For many of these elders, you may be the only person they see all day. A friendly greeting and quick check-in can brighten their mood, ease loneliness, and ensure they’re okay. Every route delivered supports a community where older adults are nourished, safe, and valued. Click here to fill out a volunteer application!

What Volunteers Do

  • Deliver nutritious meals to homebound seniors across Buncombe County once a week, either as a regular driver on a designated route or as a substitute when the regular driver cannot make it. Routes go out Monday through Friday before noon, serve 10 to 16 seniors, and take about an hour and a half to two hours from start to finish.

  • Provide a brief informal wellness and safety check with each visit which helps reduce hunger and isolation for older adults

  • Offer a warm smile, a kind word, and compassionate companionship

  • Alert staff if anything seems out of the ordinary
